Ten experiences that give you the real city, from the Kasbah to Cap Spartel.
Start in the medina: enter by the Grand Socco, drift down to the Petit Socco and climb to the Kasbah for the view over the Strait of Gibraltar.
Then leave the centre. Cap Spartel and the Hercules Caves are a short drive west, and the Atlantic beaches of Achakar are right beside them.
Finish the day the local way: mint tea on a terrace facing Spain, then grilled fish near the port or the marina.
